So Biden was asked about slavery and racism, and among the garbled string of non sequiturs in his response, he argued that poor families just don't know how to raise their kids. How is his campaign spinning this combination of incoherence and offensive content?
It appears Biden's team is spinning by going on the attack against one of the few candidates of color in the race - calling him "mean." Well, I guess that's one strategy. But why are any journalists falling for it?

The biggest debate in the Democratic primary is over whether or not to prioritize saving democracy after 2020. From @OsitaNwanevu: newrepublic.com/article/154935…
In about 20 years, 70% of the country will live in 15 states. The more conservative 30% will be spread across 35 states, represented by 70 senators. That's the ballgame folks - forget progressive federal legislation. It'll be over.
In 2021, we either make D.C. a state, give self-determination to PR, secure elections, expand the vote, unpack the courts, tackle campaign finance, invest in public media, etc - or we give future Mitch McConnells permanent control of the Senate, and by connection the courts.

Late to this one by @jbouie, but it really is striking how often conservatives respond to proposals for voting rights, D.C. statehood, and election security with the bizarre non-sequitur rebuttal "We're a republic, not a democracy!" nytimes.com/2019/08/27/opi…
Bouie's last paragraph sums up what's going on here. The people who use this line are against both democracy *and* representation. They know the country is getting more diverse and more unequal, and their goal is to entrench power in the handy of the white wealthy few.

The plan was clear when they learned of whistleblower complaint. 1) Argue that the complaint did not fall under jurisdiction of ODNI (and therefore ICIG) so cannot go to Congress; 2) ground legal reasoning in statutory and agency function reasoning, rather than Art. II, to 1/
avoid possible standing issues wrt Congress (? can’t think of why otherwise choose such flimsy grounds in lieu of very strong constitutional args — DNI saying that OLC determination binding on executive officials; 3) tell IG proper channel is to submit criminal referral to DOJ;
4) have criminal referrals blocked via Barr. Voila! Complaint (they think) never sees light of day and no one is the wiser. This whole bureaucratic shenanigan is just another layer of the cover up and should be investigated as well — Barr and Steve Engel (OLC) should testify

1/7 Having read reports from @the3million and in the press about the risk of non-UK EU citizens being disenfranchised in the upcoming European elections, I contacted every council in the country for confirmation that they had sent out forms UC1/EC6 to all registered EU24 voters.
2/7 The issue had also been raised by a number of MPs in Parliament @hilarybennmp @BenMLake @JoPlattMP @CatherineWest1 @sarahwollaston
3/7 I’m pleased to report that 88% of councils have so far replied to confirm the forms have been sent and continue to be sent out as new people register.

1. Every writer feels hopeless sometimes. Whether it's while writing, while editing, while reading about the triumphs of others, or when having an unsatisfactory social experience, writing will never be 100% happy. This is life. Ups and downs. Paddle the waves until you can surf.
2. If you feel hopeless while writing, stop to consider why. Did you not plan enough? Did you plot too much and now it feels boring? Is a scene not working? Are you in the Soggy Middle, which is terrible for everyone? Figure out the problem and fight through it. Don't dwell.
