1/ Brazilian #IndependenceDay

Today is Brazil's independence day, the equivalent of your 4th of July. The fascist dumbshit clown-in-chief #Bolsonaro posted the picture below (the man on the left is the criminal head of a multinational Brazilian evangelical church, Edir Macedo).
2/ Same script as Trump who praises hostile foreign countries during duress in the USA. Yes, the USA has been mostly a "hostile" country to Latin American countries,
3/... landing a big hand in the establishment of the 1960's and 1970's military dictatorships in the region, also known as "American backyard".

4/ Why are Bolsonaro and Trump so similarly pathetic? The same global far-right cabal put both unintelligent, manipulable and deranged psychos as puppets to inflame a dangerous demographic in all countries: the authoritarian base.

5/ I grew up quite confused as to this date. First, because we were under a military dictatorship. The adults were not stupid to tell us, small children, what was really happening. After all, many of our friends' parents had "disappeared".
6/ Second, nothing made too much sense: so there was this Portuguese prince who yelled "independence or death" close to a river that was not that impressive, to an unknown audience. Not everybody agreed at the time.

7/ A great part of the people had no say in it as they were African slaves. Non-tax-paying white elites were as shitty as Portuguese elites. Indigenous folks had been mostly massacred or pushed West.
8/ Previously, there were attempts at severing ties to the colonial power (Portugal) and there was this guy who had a girlfriend he nicknamed "Marilia". That's where I and lots of Marilias got their name from.

9/ The independence prince had a girlfriend. My parents tried to explain that they were not the same type of girlfriend (the prince's girlfriend was a mistress, or prostitute, or whatever). The older guy's poetry sucked. The prince was a drunk.

10/ As I grew up, there were military parades by the "bad guys" (that much we knew) on September the 7th. They were scary. I had no clue what military parades had to do with the drunk prince who had yelled some shit at an unimpressive river.
11/ And nobody could explain how long letters would take to reach Portugal from Brazil in 1822.

Anyway, I never cared.

1/ About the digital right-wing troll attack on liberal accounts today/tonight through the "Lib Slayer Operation" (I am purposefully avoiding their hashtag):

=> I have done the basic homework, blocked the list passed on to me but I investigated further
2/ All accounts are fairly small and troll-type. The content is shallow, ignorant, typical uneducated white nationalist anger. What does that mean?
=> horizontal, anarchic action
=> organizational fringe (folks that satelize extremist organizations but ...
3/ ... don't actually have hard ties to them. It's the American white nationalist MO: it's inefficient, but works by critical mass volume)

1/ How pop culture can help expats understand what Americans call "real America" and brace for it.

If you are an expat like me, chances are that you ended up as a #BaffledImmigrant as well.
2/ Curiously, we can read almost daily some essay or new book on the quest for "real America". Are they - the locals - also baffled? No, they are not. They are frustrated, resentful and unhappy with what they see.
3/ American nostalgia is one of the most dangerous trends in the world: it's the longing for an imaginary past of peace and happiness, of white peace and white happiness, that even for white folks, was mostly a promise.

1) "It could have been worse" means "why are you making such a fuss over a few deaths?"

First, repeated demonstration of lack of empathy. Second, deflection.

2) Unfortunately, I've read that from people I respect. Let me explain something: mass shootings are a completely different social (and psycho-social) phenomenon than the ones shown on public statistics of daily gun deaths.
3) The variables more strongly associated with gun deaths in public statistics are "black", "male" and "young". If we break down the mass of gun deaths by multivariate analysis we will see clusters.

There is a very big answer lying in the ques that why pak did'nt go to ICJ.

If they would have gone to ICJ, they'll end up in losing PoK & GB within no time whatsoever.

INDIA don't need to attack pak to get PoK & GB back, we can take it back legally easily.

One of the earliest artefacts discovered in Congo's history is the Ishango bone. A mathematical tool, etched into an animal bone, discovered in the Ishango region of eastern Congo. The bone is believed to date back to circa 18’000-20’000BC.
The Kingdom of Kongo (Royaume du Kongo), circa 1500s, believed to be in its 13th dynasty at the time, had a population of 100’000 people in the capital city Mbanza-Kongo (London approx 50’000 at the time).

Although it is worth pointing out that once the aliens park over New York, DC and LA, President Whitmore's first major decision is NOT to evacuate the cities.

My “Independence Day Message”.

So last week, as I prepped for a long flight home, a pleasant elderly gentleman indicated that he had the seat next to me. We got talking.
“So what do you do?”
“I work in advertising. And you sir?”
“I’m a pensioner”
.....
I could see the quiet, almost mischievous smile as he said this. So I ask, “and before you were a pensioner, what where you?”
“I was a few things, including the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Of Nations.”
“Ah. So I’m seated with Dr. Emeka Anyaoku?”
“You are.”
What followed was many things...an education, an interview, a window into the maelstrom called Nigeria.

Dr. Anyaoku is 85yrs old, but he moves like he’s not a day older than 70. He has 32 Honorary Doctorates, from the best schools in the world.
