September 10, 2001 6:25pm EDT President Bush arrived at the Sarasota Bradenton Airport in Florida. We were there for a reading event the next morning at a local elementary school.
Here’s who greeted POTUS when he got off Air Force One and a list of the key members of the advance team in charge of making September 11th a successful, routine visit to Sarasota.
The forecast was scattered thunder storms and a high of 89 degrees for the next day, September 11, 2001.
6:40 pm We left the airport for the 20 minute drive to the Colony Beach Resort. Here’s a list of who was in the motorcade that evening. (These documents are from the “mini”, a pocket-sized schedule packed with every detail about POTUS’s schedule.)
We arrived to the hotel around 7:00. President Bush had a private dinner with his brother, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, along with several guests. I ate at the hotel restaurant, most likely with staff and maybe a reporter or two, I don’t recall.
Departure time the next morning was scheduled for 8:25. Considering I typically arrived at the WH at 7:00am, it would be a nice, late morning. It was a routine night on September 10th. My last one for quite a while. [End of tweets tonight. Back at 8:15 tomorrow morning.]
