I find it so weird when a friend, a colleague or a student at CIDE tell me "oh, I'm struggling with writing my literature review" or "writing the thesis is becoming such a challenge" and I'm like "OH WOW, WHO IN THE ENTIRE WORLD MIGHT WRITE ABOUT THIS ON HIS RESEARCH BLOG?"
Them - "I feel so disorganzed" - Me "..." raulpacheco.org/resources/orga…

Scholars and students from all over the world know my research blog better than many of my colleagues/students/friends. And this is not a flex, nor a complaint. It's just .... weird.

I do feel taken for granted on a regular basis, but it gets to the point where it's funny.

Reflection: there have been two "coming full circle" moments for me at this #JEPP21 workshop. First, it's a workshop on the past and future of environmental policy scholarship. If you read very very early work of mine, it WAS on policy instruments. academia.edu/3043082/Pachec…
My paper for this #JEPP21 workshop and special issue of @JrlEPP is precisely on taking stock of what we know about environmental regulation and policy instruments' theory and how far forward have we moved in this field, or whether we have remained stuck in old governent tools.
My second visit to Berlin (first one, in 2001) is again for an environmental policy conference (I presented at the very first Berlin Conference on Global Environmental Change). This is me, coming full circle!

Abro hilo breve sobre redacción en primera persona y en tercera persona. En México, por alguna razón, enseñan a redactar artículos científicos en tercera persona (de una forma muy vaga) en lugar de en primera persona. Yo estoy 100% en contra de este modelo de redacción.
He publicado en ambos formatos (Región y Sociedad) regionysociedad.colson.edu.mx:8086/index.php/rys/… (Espiral) espiral.cucsh.udg.mx/index.php/EEES… el formato "más científico" lo utilizo únicamente cuando editor de la revista me lo pide como requisito de publicación. Afortunadamente, son pocos los que me lo han pedido
YO hice el trabajo de campo. YO analicé los datos. YO redacté el artículo. Por lo mismo, prefiero redactar en primera persona (en inglés, en español, y en francés, que son los idiomas en los que publico). Es una batalla lidiar con editores que luego quieren cambiar mi estilo.

Cadena de oración por todos y todas los autores y autoras mexicanos y mexicanas que escriben "se sugiere", "se expone", "se analiza". Dios mío, qué terrible forma de redactar. Aprendan a redactar en primera y tercera persona, caray.

You work at a seed funded startup, desperately churning out code to grab more and more total addressable market share. You declined the Fortune 500 gig cuz you're cooler than that.

You'd be at a "hip" fast-casual spot like QDoba. You think it's better than McDonalds. It's not.

1. I want to talk about ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 13-years-old. To say it's misunderstood (both by people who have ADHD and people who don't have it) is an understatement. What people need to understand about those of us who have ADHD is we are not homogeneous
2. Because many people think those with ADHD all have similar symptoms and challenges, we don't often get the empathy and support we need. ADHD is something we live with every day, hour, minute. It can ravage our lives and you may not even be aware of it.
3. When people have asked me in the past to describe what ADHD feels like I get into details about how it impacts my life every day but I always add that for me that ADHD has caused me a great deal of emotional pain. It's a frustrating, infuriating disorder.

Writing Myths #3 Writing Portfolios are the magic way into the industry!!
Get a portfolio said the writing panel/advice/speaker in what is the latest throwaway simple advice that instantly builds a career…. So, let’s talk about them.

1)Portfolios are NOT magic. Simply having one doesn't get you a job. Tey are a tool to be used in chasing work and an increasing number of employers ask for them. Having one can be very useful, but just putting some bits of writing in the same place does not = instant career.
2) People tend to read your email first, then your c.v. and then portfolio. Mess up stages 1, or 2 and 3 may well not matter. Always rework your email, c.v. and portfolio for EVERY application. Focus on what matches that job/company.
