BREAKING: The House has voted 225-193 to repeal oil leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Story to come for @CourthouseNews.
GOP vows ANWR promises energy independence for the US. Available evidence from federal mineral studies project there likely isnt enough oil to justify greater cost to speculate. Democrats pushed back on the claim during debate, citing the present state of oil export rules.
About 3 million barrels of oil are exported from the U.S. each day while 7 million are imported.

Rep Lowenthal:
“Instead of exporting those 3 million barrels, we keep them here at home. So if Republicans want to put the export ban back in place, we can have a real discussion."
"But they know their friends in the oil and gas industry would never let them have that discussion," Lowenthal quipped.
