Good to see Castro vindicated here.
Pierce addresses the larger issue of Biden's ramblings. His assessment is critical reading because it speaks to the larger question of competency to battle Trump. In citing Warren's exchange on Afghanistan, Pierce offers a clear parallel on NOT screwing up a complex issue.
The point here is no other candidate has to be propped up and excused. Bernie is as old as Biden, but always knows where he is and what his plans are. Other candidates have job histories to explain and have done. Why does Biden get special dispensation?
Joaquin Castro notes that even transformative presidents are not deities and we cannot treat them, or their satellites, as if they are. Biden is not Obama and even if he were, no one is above critique or reproach.

Stier clerked for chief judge James Oakes & for SCOTUS Justice David Souter. He was also deputy counsel at HUD.

#DanBishop won the #NC09 election. Trump is taking credit for that--as well he should. Trump and Bishop share the same ugly homophobic and transphobic POV and it was support for Bishop's grotesque #HB2 that helped him win. charlotteobserver.com/opinion/editor…
We can claim that #DanBishop won because that #NC09 has always been a GOP seat, but really, this is about GOP support for discriminatory anti-LGBTQ, anti-queer and anti-trans bills. Folks like Bishop propose and promote them, as I wrote two years ago.

At some point we have to acknowledge that while racism and misogyny are a GOP backdrop, they raise money and thrive on their homophobic and transphobic attacks and those assaults on queer and trans people are behind their "religious freedom" bills.

Some reflections on the Buddhist philosophy and logic workshop I was at last week (thread). Lots of this came up in convos w/ Koji Tanaka, Parimal Patil, and @davewripley...but this is all my own mangled reasoning
What is buddhist logic? It quickly became clear to me last week that it’s a stretch to use the word “logic” to think about classical Buddhist, Jaina, and Nyāya philosophy, at least in our current philosophical context. The term seems to obscures what these philosophers were up to
These philosophers were unconcerned with mathematical reasoning, but so were most euro-folks, so that’s not the issue. They also relied on a model of generative linguistics, so they did trend in a “formal” direction.

On self-help books: Rest, by @askpang really shook me to my core. I almost died (as in literal loss of life) from overwork, twice in the past 7 years. Pang forced me to rethink my approach to taking days/time off. Pang’s “deliberate rest” has improved my life and I’m grateful.
I absolutely loved @gretchenrubin ‘S Better than Before because it reaffirmed in me the importance of good habits (I’m an Institutional theorist, I believe in the power of routines, rules and norms)
I come from a military family and I’ve had a quasi-militarized education and training, so nothing @cduhigg said was new to me, but both The Power of Habit and Smarter, Faster, Better reaffirmed in me the importance of good habits (see Rubin above).

In list of items Facebook covered up, this report deserves questions under oath if FB won't answer press. Facebook's CTO said he didn't know nearly 6 million Fake Accounts, Fake Likes were deleted after 2016 election? And Facebook doesn't know countries?
From docs unsealed in fall 2018 from a lawsuit. press reported it appears to be discovery from internal Facebook communications discussing strategy to cover up a fairly large mistake.
Never dug into Zuckeberg lieutenant @boztank's old tweets but note how he failed to mention what he calls Cambridge Analytica's "certification" wasn't even legally useful and came more than 16 months, a brexit and US election after Facebook knew about it.
