#DanBishop won the #NC09 election. Trump is taking credit for that--as well he should. Trump and Bishop share the same ugly homophobic and transphobic POV and it was support for Bishop's grotesque #HB2 that helped him win. charlotteobserver.com/opinion/editor…
We can claim that #DanBishop won because that #NC09 has always been a GOP seat, but really, this is about GOP support for discriminatory anti-LGBTQ, anti-queer and anti-trans bills. Folks like Bishop propose and promote them, as I wrote two years ago.

At some point we have to acknowledge that while racism and misogyny are a GOP backdrop, they raise money and thrive on their homophobic and transphobic attacks and those assaults on queer and trans people are behind their "religious freedom" bills.

When @KamalaHarris reviewed the tape, she was upset by what she heard. She apologized.
Trump has targeted #disabled people for the entirety of his presidency--and before.

In one tweet, Harris showed more leadership than Trump ever has cnn.com/2019/09/08/opi…
When Trump mimicked #disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski, he not only didn't apologize, he doubled down.
It's essential that EVERY candidate call out members of her or his audience who uses this language. And do NOT use it or other words like it on here. They will--and should--get you locked or suspended. We have other words to describe Trump that don't harm disabled & I/DD people.

I was locked out of my account by Twitter for a day for describing the difference between #FGM and male circumcision. I chose to remove the tweets as well as appeal, but honestly, this is men mass reporting women for telling the stories of our lives.

#FGM is a brutal crime against girls and women that can kill them or leave them harmed for life. I covered this story up close when I lived in London and I have been privileged to meet many survivor activists. I am appalled that Twitter doesn't recognize their error here.

2/ Combined, the results are a ‘gap analysis’ which can inform future research. Both studies were funded by @Charity_Futures, re its work establishing an Institute of Charity at Oxford University. But the findings can inform the agenda of any researchers in this terrain.

Today, @CER_EU publishes my piece on #Brexit and #JHA. I have been looking at this for 1,5 years so I hope I did not make too many mistakes (links to piece - cer.eu/publications/a… and opens thread)
At the outset of the #Brexit process, most people assumed that a deal on #police and #judicial co-operation was easier to get than one on #trade. Time has shown this is not the case. Ongoing co-op on #JHA is one of the few items yet to be agreed on #withdrawal deal. Why?
Well, because the #EU and #UK's opening positions in the #negotiation are incompatible: Britain wants a #bespoke agreement with the EU, a la #Schengen, but is not willing to accept #ECJ or #EUCharter. EU wants to replicate existing models. What to do?

1/ I teach journalism at University of New Hampshire, and one of the things we discuss is how—while many newsworthy stories are bounded in time, audience, relevance, and the expertise needed to cover them—others are far more expansive and require a different kind of journalism.
2/ Earlier this week, I gave a lecture at The Pratt Institute titled "The Trump-Russia Affair As Generational Event." It framed the Affair as a historical episode rather than a bounded news story—more analagous to the Great Depression than a single federal criminal investigation.

2/ The memo begins by noting that the "Nunes Memo" had one ambition: attack the FBI and DOJ so thoroughly, and weaken them so significantly, the result would be the complete and final obstruction of the ongoing Mueller probe.

Trump and Nunes hoped to sink the probe permanently.

1/ First, here's the article. The NYT foregrounds the story's significance as a rebuttal of Trump's claims the Russia investigation began with the Steele Dossier. But in fact, anyone who knows criminal investigations knew long ago Trump's claim was untrue. nytimes.com/2017/12/30/us/…
2/ As has been discussed by @AshaRangappa_, the Steele Dossier alone would never have been enough to earn the FBI the July 2016 FISA warrant it was granted to monitor Carter Page. So attorneys and those in intelligence long ago knew the Dossier didn't launch the probe by itself.
