I do not understand the argument that we can have a second referendum before a general election. Two principal problems:

1.) Where is the mandate? No mandate for no deal/none for second ref either as it stands.

2.) Is this govt supposed to go on for 6-9 months with maj of -45?
The Commons cannot keep this government trapped indefinitely against its will. It's as unconstitutional as some of the nonsense the government has been trying.
To all those saying a referendum doesn't need a mandate:

-both EU referendums had a mandate from the voters in a general election
-how will you like it, say we stay in the EU, if a future government just of their own volition has a referendum on leaving without asking anyone?
But the more pressing issue is which govt is supposed to administer it? This govt won’t do it and cannot survive or govern anyway. If the Opposition really wants a referendum before an election it must replace the govt.
But it isn’t willing to do that because it isn’t willing to pull the Corbyn lever. They are trying to have their cake and eat it too. The problem of the government’s inability to command the Commons is as grave as the Brexit crisis, indeed they are linked. It cannot be ignored.
