If there’s anything I’ve learned from covering NYC schools since 2013, it’s that change comes extremely slowly to a system that is basically too large to ever be effectively managed, much less overhauled as part of The Culture Wars™️. The idea that there is a mass wokeification
Of 1,800 schools just doesn’t fit the facts on the ground. I’ve visited more schools than I can count and the vast majority - with the exception of the specific schools Packer is talking about + maybe 15-20 others - operate much the same way they have for yrs if not decades.
Also, de Blasio is considerably less radical on edu than people who are given a lot to space to write about edu seem to feel. UPK, the only big initiative, was politically wise bc it’s non-controversial. Like, Nancy Pelosi is a fan. Also! Carranza does not run the school system.
