Between this ice.gov/statements/enf… and an email from DHS Press Affairs this weekend touting the agency heads' appearances on the Sunday shows, it's time to have a conversation about what this agency is telling the American public about its authority.
2/ Let's start here: "Does Not Conduct Raids".

But that's what happened in Bean Station, TN. Indeed, the entire premise of the operation was rounding brown people up who worked in the factory and taking them to a national guard facility to be identified. knoxnews.com/story/news/201…
3/ Does Not Need a Warrant to Arrest
Let's parse what this does:
- Elides the distinction between a judicially reviewed criminal arrest warrant and an ICE supervisor-reviewed civil, administrative arrest warrant.
- Ignores INA Sec. 287(a)(2)'s limit on warrantless arrests.
4/ cont'd-No Warrant
- Suggests ICE can enter homes/businesses without a "warrant" and thus operates outside the confines of the 4th Amendment.
- Implicitly threatens with arrest advocates, community members who train community members to ask for a warrant when encountering ICE
5/ Officers Treat Detainees with Dignity and Respect
ICE says it provides "safe, humane, and appropriate" confinement of people it imprisons.

That's not what DHS's Office of Inspector General says: oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/…

6/ Officers Treat Detainees with Dignity and Respect
ICE says it provides "safe, humane, and appropriate" confinement of people it imprisons.

And that's not what ICE's internal detainee death reviews say:

7/ For reasons we can only speculate, the Public Affairs branch of ICE has determined the way to tamp down on "demonization" employees on ICE's front lines feel is to simply deny the violations of law documented by the communities they supposed live, shop, pray, and learn in.
