My heart is so full following an impactful and empowering 49th Annual @CBCFInc Annual Legislative Conference!

This year’s theme, “400 Years, Our Legacy Our Possibilities” celebrated Black history, resilience, joy, and success.
During the action-packed #cbcweek we partnered with local experts and community advocates to host a conversation on the plight of Black Immigrants and how we can continue to center the voice of the marginalized while we’re working toward comprehensive reform.
I also joined @angela_rye and my #squad-mates @AOC @AyannaPressley @RashidaTlaib for a talk about what’s more is needed to continually build sustainable progressive movements
stopped by the @TimeforIlhan (Dir. @NorahShapiro) screening + Q&A hosted by @VoteRunLead @BMCMovement and @its_the_outrage
Ate and danced to my heart’s content at @AyannaPressley’s community-centered reception “Breaking Concrete Ceilings” at @CultureHouseDC w/ @LaurenUnderwood and @JahanaHayesCT !

Everything from the venue to the refreshments were all over provided by local Black owned vendors! ✊🏽

Today’s historic hearing on the Muslim ban matters. As someone who came here as a refugee from one of the Trump administration’s banned countries, I know how destructive this hateful policy is to people around the world who want to come to America for a better life.
Today, the families who can’t see their loved ones have some accountability. People around the world wondering if this is still the land where they have a shot at a better life, regardless of religion, will see that one party at least still believes in those values.
We will keep fighting until we have fully repealed the Muslim ban and put this hateful policy into the dustbin of history where it belongs. If your representative and senators haven’t co-sponsored the #NoBanAct, put pressure on them today by calling (202) 224-3121.

We must #DemandMore for Native women. That starts with breaking down the systemic barriers they face. We need to come together to fight for justice for #MMIW, equal access to healthcare, tribal sovereignty, and fair wages. #NativeWomensEqualPay
Part of achieving equity for Native women is addressing the wage gap. Native women had to work until today to make what white men did in all of 2018. And for every dollar a white man earns, a Native woman takes home just 58 cents. #NativeWomensEqualPay
The House took action to close the gender pay gap. While the Paycheck Fairness Act is sitting at the doorstep of Mitch McConnell, Native women aren’t getting equal pay for equal work. #NativeWomensEqualPay

student leaders are now reading their demands to the crowd here in mcintire park. @ZyahnaB: “we need more black teachers” CHS currently has only one AP course taught by a black teacher.
@ZyahnaB: “no one should be able to opt out of black history!” buford elementary had no in-school celebration of black history month this year. they also demand equal course weight for a black history class at CHS.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
