On May 31, 2017, following his visit to Saudi Arabia, President Trump tweeted “Despite constant negative press covfefe“. At this time, “covfefe” or “cov fe’fe” was recognized by Google Translate as an Arabic phrase and translated to mean “I will stand up”.
Later, Trump confirmed that by tweeting “Who can figure out the true meaning of “covfefe” ??? Enjoy!”
Many people already understood its meaning and those who didn’t, could easily find it in Google Translate.

That same day, the NY Times declared that the word doesn’t exist, and that Trump supporters had spread the conspiracy theory of its existence and meaning. On June 1, Google literally deleted this and another transliteration of “I will stand up” from its Arabic-English dictionary!
