BREAKING: Potential hijack underway. ThousandEyes detected intermittent availability issues to Google services from some locations. Traffic to certain Google destinations appears to be routed through an ISP in Russia & black-holed at a China Telecom gateway router.

Always good to see a party take ownership of the root cause of a major event like this. A route leak can be innocuous or a malicious act. The main lesson remains this: Doing business on the Internet means you're vulnerable to unpredictable and destabilizing events.
If this can happen to a company with the scale and resources available that Google has, realize it can happen to anyone. Visibility into what's happening on the Internet and cloud is no longer a nice-to-have. Full analysis on the blog: blog.thousandeyes.com/internet-vulne…
