And just a hair under 22 hours later my account is provisioned. It's threading time, #oow19.

Come with me into @oraclecloud's new free tier.
@OracleCloud I have to pick a region. I go with Ashburn, as I find the warmth from the us-east-1 dumpster fire next door to be comforting. Oracle calls it "US East (Ashburn)" or "us-ashburn-1."
@OracleCloud I appreciate the "here be dragons" warning. It beats smacking into a problem too late to fix it.
@OracleCloud "Want to spin up everything in the Always Free Tier? Go to github.com/oracle/oci-qui… and apply that Terraform config."

Okay, this is slick.
@OracleCloud Import a stack in Terraform (I don't have to learn something custom!!!), answer a few questions, and you're good to go. You all know what I'm building here.
@OracleCloud Hey @oraclecloud folks, is my AD-1 the same as everyone else's AD-1, or is naming inconsistent between accounts?

Asking for a friend who got smacked in the face by that one at a different Ashburn-area cloud provider.
@OracleCloud Ooh, just a "give us your public SSH key" instead of a "step 17, master the wolf to successfully generate a new keypair" dance? I'm swooning.
@OracleCloud And the provisioning process starts now. You're on the clock again!
@OracleCloud And nothing happens because I need to do a Terraform plan job first. My mistake. It's running now.
@OracleCloud There's no indicator that the page is dynamic. No spinner, nothing. I suspiciously eye the F5 key.
@OracleCloud Great success in about a minute and a half!

I invoke Terraform Apply, then put the kettle on and grab a good book out of old CloudFormation habit.
@OracleCloud "While this job is running, only partial logs are available. You can get a complete log when the job is finished."

That's now how you're supposed to do it, @oraclecloud. You're supposed to leave people wondering ambiguously whether anything worked or not.
@OracleCloud And it completes successfully in 4 minutes, 47 seconds. Elsewhere, a CloudFormation run is still looking for its car keys at this point, for comparison.
@OracleCloud Tabbing around a bit to the costing center drops me to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Classic. They're using @awscloud nomenclature for "Classic." @GCPcloud nomenclature for the same thing is "out of beta."
@OracleCloud @awscloud @GCPcloud Back on the dashboard there's a "View all my Resources" widget. Holy crap this is wonderful. I don't have to hunt through the damn bill / 18 regions / 7 accounts to find them all?!

Note that this is all free tier. #oow19
@OracleCloud @awscloud @GCPcloud And the sample app works!

This is a pretty well done experience. I didn’t hit any blockers as I went other than the minor 22 hour provisioning hiccup. The console is a freaking JOY to navigate. Are we sure this is an Oracle product?! #oow19
@OracleCloud @awscloud @GCPcloud The UX language is consistent, as if a single team built it rather than succumbing to territorial squabbles.

If I build something by hand it apparently will spit out Terraform to do it programmatically.

I like this a lot. #oow19
