“with Benn Act IF and only if it is triggered (which it may not be, if there is a deal). That is NOT the same as ‘the PM will ask for a delay’! HOW we comply with the Benn Act is the real question, and also what would be in our SECOND letter”. In other words...
Johnson still believes he can lawfully render the Benn Act nul and void, presumably by sending a second letter that would dissuade the EU from granting a delay. Lady Hale and the Supreme Court look set to be back in action before the end of October...

JRM explains, very crisply, the core rationale for the new PM in his cabinet selection: Appoint people who have talent and who are resolutely committed to leaving by 31/10. He adds that Javid & Truss who have the 2 key economic ministries backed Remain in 2016 but are Re-Leavers.
Rees-Mogg acknowledges the crucial importance of Dominic Cummings to the new government: “He is very capable at policy, he was instrumental in Michael Gove’s radical education reforms, and he’s also a very effective campaigner, as he showed during his leadership of Vote Leave.”

#ToryIslamophobia update – there have been a number of major developments today but for those not following closely, I have collated them to demonstrate the scale of the issue.
We had front pages in the Guardian and Independent referring to the scale of the issue after Baroness Warsi said the Conservative Party had an institutional problem with Islamophobia, before the Today programme and Politics Live covering the issue.
One of the cases highlighted earlier this week, which was covered on @Channel4News yesterday was that of former Tory council leader Mr Bowles who RTed a message hailing Tommy Robinson. It was confirmed that he was suspended today. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

#BorisJohnson has been accused of lying about claims concerning #Turkey during the #Referendum. My legal team and I are prosecuting @BorisJohnson for the alleged offence of misconduct in public office, in connection with claims he made that the UK 'sends' £350 million to the EU.
2. Mr Johnson is innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law. Please do not comment upon Mr Johnson's innocence or guilt once the case has been initiated with the courts in the coming weeks.
3. Please use respectful and measured language when referring to Mr Johnson, the courts and our case whilst the prosecution case is active. Do not risk being accused of contempt of court.
