1/ We need to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road by between 20% and 60%. McDonnell's proposals for interest free loans for electric vehicles exposes Labour's weakness on this issue. That money needs to go into clean mass transit and active travel.
2/ If we're to deliver any such scheme, its primary focus should be on extending zero emission technology to geographically isolated communities where mass transit is unlikely to be economical.
3/ McDonnell has just explicitly stated his proposal 'will stimulate the automative industry'. This is a perversion of what a Green New Deal really needs to do. It's clear that for some, as I have repeatedly stated, the GND is a Trojan Horse for more climate-destroying growth.
4/ All made so much worse by the @BBCr4today reporter stating 'in the future we'll all need electric cars'. If, in the future, we're all in electric cars, we'll have completely failed to address the unfolding climate emergency...
