1/ [Thread] On the suggestion of @zerepmot , I will analyse recent replies to @kathleen_belew following her congressional testimony on #WhiteSupremacists. The hypothesis is that Kathleen was trolled by a lot of right-wing and pro-Trump accounts. Let's see what the numbers say...
@zerepmot @kathleen_belew 2/ For some context: @kathleen_belew , a professor at University of Chicago, was one of several people providing information in congressional hearing on the issue of white nationalism in the US. @zerepmot @kathleen_belew @RealCandaceO 3/ So I downloaded a sample of tweets sent by people to @kathleen_belew . The sample includes around 54,000 edges. This will include people replying to Kathleen and @ other people. 54,000 is a lot, especially because around 53,000 of those interactions happened in a short window 
4/ To put it another way, Kathleen's Twitter notifications would be going nuts. The total number of unique Twitter accounts mentioned in this sample is around 12,300. Most of those mentioned will be tweeting @ Kathleen, some may just be mentioned in specific tweets to Kathleen
5/An analysis of the biographies revealed that the most common biographical term used by those replying to Kathleen was "Maga", followed by "Trump", and then, erm, "love". Maga appeared 1961 times! That's a heck of a lot.
6/Indeed, around 30% of those who interacted with @kathleen_belew had either a pro-Trump, alt right or right wing slogan in their biography. Remember this is just those accounts that are explicit in their right-wing political allegiance
@kathleen_belew 7/ The top tweets to Kathleen were those by @RealCandaceO mocking Kathleen's qualifications; an angry tweet about mentioning the Christchurch shooting, and one playing on Kathleen's whiteness. See below for some of the listed and most common tweets/RTs
