I have 2 rules of RPG video game writing

1. At the end, the hero should get to look the villain in the eyes and kick them in the dick

2. the player should get to really appreciate how the world has changed after their play

Just completed the main story of #Borderlands3. Without spoiling anything, I thought it was pretty decent. If you liked BL2, you should play BL3.

I played it in splitscreen co-op on PS4; which was a frustrating experience. Maybe they will improve that with subsequent updates
The fundamental story from start to finish overall is pretty good. The obvious concern is: can the Calypso twins live up to Handsome Jack, as villains? The answer to that is yes, they’re wonderfully frustrating and truly hateable, and they make also sense as characters
I played as Amara (😍) while my wife played as Zane, and both are pretty interesting, likeable characters. Amara can be a bit one-dimensional but she is so precious and badass that I have to love her anyway. It’s a very good dimension 😂

One thing I've found very curious in popular discourse around language in India is that language contact is reduced to the process of loaning words; this incredibly fascinating linguistic phenomenon is reduced to its lexical aspect. This ends up obscuring all the amazing stuff
that language contact makes possible, these perspectives it offers us. Lexical borrowing is probably the least interesting form it takes, it's also the most superficial in many ways. Doesn't take much for a literary register to borrow vocab from a prestige language - the vast
volume of English words that have made it to Indian languages is a great example.

People borrow words all the time, sure, but imagine influenced by a language so much you start modeling your own *grammar* and sound systems after it. Way cooler than just borrowing words right?

THREAD. Actually, i’ve spent my life avoiding heat. Here are my top tips for staying #Cool in a #HeatWave...
1. Buy an air conditioner. They sell out like summer was never on the calendar but @ecoairGB and @DeLonghiUK are good. Spend as much as you can afford and 8000/9000BTU is fine to cool small / medium room. (seal around vent pipe as well as u can. Only need 1 cool room to survive)
2. CLOSE THE BLOODY WINDOWS! Most important thing. Curtains and blinds too. On my street today all windows are wide open and the air outside is 12 degrees hotter than inside! #Madness! Close at 10am and open as soon as the air outside cools below inside, usually after dark

One of the 1st things that stands out to learners of Arabic is its lack of the [p] sound – bebsi is modern Arabic for Pepsi. But Arabic’s sister languages, like Hebrew and Aramaic, have a [p] – Arabic fataḥa vs Hebrew pātaḥ ‘he opened’. So, when did Arabic lose its p? A thread.
Sibawayh (d. 796) gives us our earliest description of Arabic phonology. The language already lacks the [p] sound. He describes the ف as emerging from between the bottom lip and the upper incisors, clearly [f]. But loanwords in Arabic suggest it wasn’t always this way. (pic:wiki)
Arabic loans words with a [p] in 2 ways. In the most ancient layer of loans, foreign words with [p] are represented by Arabic [f]. For example:

fāris ‘Persia’ < Pers. pārsa/pārs
firdaws ‘paradise’ < Grk. παράδεισος
firʿawn ‘Pharoah’ < Arm. perʿōn

While *most* South Asian Muslims use #Persian terms for religious concepts, Muslims in #TamilNadu & #Kerala (who trace their roots to Arab trading communities) have distinct traditions also reflected in their terminology, which freely draws from #Tamil/#Malayalam & #Sanskrit.
Instead of rozā, the #Persian term for Islamic fasting (itself a translation of #Arabic ṣawm) used in #Urdu, #Bengali, #Gujarati etc, #Tamil & #Malayalam speaking Muslims use nōmpu, lit. ceremonial fasting. The word is from a proto #Dravidian root meaning to do penance. #Ramadan
Sanskrit is used too. #Malayalam speaking Muslims commonly refer to #Ramzan as puṇya māsam, #Sanskrit for month of good merit. Nimskāram, the Malayalam counterpart of the #Persian namāz (Islamic prayer), is from #Sanskrit namaskāra (lit. prostratration, here, to a god). #Ramadan
