A (perhaps trite) thought about the common law. Yesterday, legal commentators were busy speculating about how the Supreme Court would rule. Today, the Supreme Court delivered a judgment which surprised them all. 1/4
The core disagreements (on prorogation, and on the proper relationship between Parliament and the Crown) will continue. But, future legal arguments have to take account of the judgment of the Supreme Court. 2/4
Some legitimate views are now seen to be misconceptions. Some areas of clarity have been sketched. But, new uncertainties have also been created. All aspects of the judgment will be probed. 3/4
We are seeing the law develop, and the Constitution evolve. Its a fascinating process to observe. 4/4

Back in 2016, the referendum result came as a bit of a surprise. There was talk of an immediate triggering of A50. I started thinking about revocability - as an insurance for the UK; if things went badly, could we turn back? 2/

Frustration levels boiling over. This claim that democracy will be betrayed unless we deliver the will of the people is deeply ingrained. It is also deeply flawed. Quick thread. 1/
In 2016, voters were given a binary choice. A majority voted to leave. Parliament retained control over the process. As a result a majority in Parliament is to determine whether and if so how to leave. 2/
Parliament's task since 2016 has been determine that very question. The referendum tells us that 52% of those who voted preferred leave over remain. It tells us nothing about how we should leave. 3/

Listening to the HoC... fretting about the opposition’s reluctance to go for an immediate VoNC. Couldn’t all sides (incl Johnson’s Tories) compromise on this?
For the opposition, it means that Johnson is forced to break his Oct promise, and defers the risk of no deal to end Jan. They could, and should, propose this today.
For Johnson, it cuts short the negotiation charade. It gives him a pre-Brexit GE. And it enables him to put his offer (such as it is) to the country and get the mandate he seeks. End.

Then I have my mouth. My brain, to think and my mouth, to speak/argue. My only tools. My only talents. So there were these set of cases I was assigned to handle at my firm. My firm does a lot of oil spillage and energy litigation, defending oil companies. That is my area too
Some Plaintiffs had sued my client for 'damages' arising out of a major oil spillage that affected some communities in Rivers State. Counsel for the Plaintiffs was a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. My firm sent me to conduct the defence against this SAN. Big cases. High Stakes.

For non Cameroonians: when we refer to Southern Cameroons or Northern Cameroons these are territory names both located in West Cameroon.
S. Cameroons and N. Cameroons administered by British w/ Nigeria. S. Cameroons now in Cameroon as SW and NW regions. N.Cameroons in Nigeria
Many still refer to SW and NW regions under the original Southern Cameroons even though it’s in the West and not the South.
