Oh, shame. Parliament just voted not to grant the Tories a recess for their conference, and that gives Johnson his seventh straight parliamentary defeat.
The irony is that parliament would almost certainly have gone into recess if Johnson hadn’t prorogued it. We may be in the sewer, but should take slivers of poetic justice where we find them.
Interesting that seven of the purged Tories, including Clarke, Gauke and Greening, voted against the government - as did Amber Rudd. A sign that some are prepared to put the needs of their constituents who voted for them ahead of the party which deserted them
