On Wednesday, Czech Senate held a debate on China. Director of Czech counterintelligence agency (BIS) Michal Koudelka was pretty explicit.

“Hundreds of thousands of Chinese work for Chinese intelligence agencies.”

When going to China, “you will be watched, your safe will be opened, your electronics will be approached. That is what you need to consider if you want to do business in China”.

“(Chinese intelligence) almost exclusively approaches their intelligence targets in China. It is much safer for them and for the victim (a Westerner) it is much harder to resist."

Czech Cyber Security Agency (NCISA) said that entries connected to Russia and China are the major threats. The agency also said that there has been a “massive attack” on strategically important Czech governmental institution.

“It is unusual to see to what (enormous) scope Chinese intelligence uses Chinese communities living abroad.” If you (as a Chinese national) have your family back in China, its easier to demand your cooperation. If you disagree, you will be blackmailed by pressuring your family."

“ (..) most important comms state channels need to be protected, since Chinese companies are in various ways connected and controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. If we allow them into our core networks, we give keys to the Ch. Comm. Party."
