I wasn't going to tweet but I guess I have to now. How about I just tweet out if I hear anything new? Unlikely this late in the campaign, although I'm open to being surprised.
This is the only bilingual candidate forum, hosted by the Family Learning Center, League of Women Voters and NAACP. 14 of 15 candidates are here; the one I don't see is Andy Celani, but I could just be missing him in the crowd.
First q, sent to candidates ahead of time. Asked by George Lopez, the first Hispanic member of Boulder's city council:
Where are you from? (In the context of, we're all immigrants. Except for Native Americans.)
Powerful answer from Nikki McCord: I am the descendent of slaves. My ancestors didn't immigrate here, they were stolen.
Benita Duran: 5th generation Coloradan. Born in Pueblo.
Rachel Friend: From Boulder, South Bend, Tampa, Palo Alto. "All of these places profoundly shaped me." But her roots are in German, Lithuanian. "Half of my family was responsible for murdering the other half in the Holocaust."
Brian Dolan is German and Irish; he was born in Albany but moved to Boulder at age 2. "I was shaped greatly by Boulder so I consider myself to be from Boulder."
Mark Wallach's family came to America bc his grandfather was a draft dodger in the Austrian(?) army. (Not sure that's what he said; hard to hear.) His mother's family came from Russia to Canada and then to America. He's from NY.
Wallach acknowledging the role privilege played in his life, something he didn't really do in our interview. At least not when it comes to his current housing status.
Many of the candidates throwing out their social justice/racial issues credentials. Interesting. Maybe they should have done that in their interviews with me.
Mark McIntyre: Has been in Boulder since 1977. He loves the diversity here, bc it's very diverse compared to where he was born: Kansas.
Aaron Brockett is the first to speak in Spanish.
He's from Tennessee; his family has been in America for "a couple hundred years or more." Also recognizes the privileges he's enjoyed as a straight, white, man.
Junie Joseph does her intro in Spanish as well. She's from Haiti and moved to Florida at 15-16. (That second part is from her interview.)

We went to the same colleges! @valenciacollege and @UCF represent!
@valenciacollege @UCF Bob Yates continues the Spanish introduction.
He's from Nebraska and listing all the places he's lived. Parents were book salesmen and bank teller. Back in the days when those were well-paying jobs.
@valenciacollege @UCF Yates: In this community, "we will welcome all who want to join us." Not sure if that's an immigrant/racial thing or a housing thing.
@valenciacollege @UCF Adam Swetlik is Czech. Makes an (actually funny) joke about the pronunciation of his surname, which his family changed.

He's from Wisc., came to Boulder for college.
@valenciacollege @UCF Crap I just realized UCF and Valencia are tagged in all my subsequent tweets. Gonna start a new thread after this intro round bc that is gonna be real annoying for them.
@valenciacollege @UCF Paul Cure: English is my first, second and third language.
He's from Michigan and "was educated" in Paris.

Has said "there's a sense" four times in 30 seconds.
@valenciacollege @UCF Told a story that ended with a J Crew sweater.
Where we're from doesn't define us, he's says.
@valenciacollege @UCF Corina Julca is from Peru. A native Spanish-speaker, she gives her intro in Spanish.

"I come from Peru, it's the most beautiful county in the world, and the U.S... both of them (are)."
@valenciacollege @UCF Won a Green Card lottery to get to the U.S.
@valenciacollege @UCF Gala Orba is from the inner city of Chicago. (Per her interview, she grew up near Wrigley Field.)
@valenciacollege @UCF She's been in Boulder for 10 years.
@valenciacollege @UCF @threadreaderapp please unroll. Thank you!
