This is a fascinating piece that raises a very interesting point - for decades, Tories have been justifying highly regressive economic policies on the basis that they will provide a marginal boost to growth - all this has gone out the window over no deal

In future, it's going to be hard for a Tory politician to say 'we'll reduce the corporation tax rate by 5% because it will boost growth' as the Brexit debate has effectively destroyed appeals to expertise, which have historically concealed the distributive effects of econ policy
Not sure I'm on board with the declinist narrative here (I'm thinking of @DEHEdgerton's point about how this has historically served to benefit the British elite) but an interesting piece nonetheless
