I use total return instead of price because in olden times a much higher share of stock market returns came from dividends, so a pure price comparison would be unfair to Hoover, FDR, Truman etc.
Anyway, this is a silly metric by which to judge presidents. But since the current president is obsessed with it, might as well do it right
