A senior US gov official was quoted in the Sep-16 Yahoo article about Carter Page giving credence to “Steele’s” crackpot theory he was taking bribes from Russians, under the headline “US intel officials probe ties between Trump advisor and Kremlin”:
At the link you can see that the Clinton campaign (from a senior spokesperson no less) then blasted out this “theory” as a legit “bombshell” to millions of potential voters in a press release and on Twitter. It probably influenced more voters than any $50 Russian Facebook ad
