15 Andhran brAhmaNa and 15 thieves had to spend a night in a remote temple of vanadurgA. After a while durgA emerged from the image & said she needed to eat 15 men to satisfy her hunger. The thieves suggested that she eat the v1s. But the v1s suggested that the arrange themselves
in a circle and the devI eat every 9th person. the goddess agreed to that. The v1s set up the order in the circle &after the goddess has had her fill all the thieves were eaten& the v1s were alive. How did they arrange themselves. @goghritaM I'd be grateful if some1 can provide
@goghritaM the actual Telugu verse for this problem in Itrans or Iast. If you wish you may also solve it.
@goghritaM Since problem seems to have attracted a lot of interest: Here is the solution, where n is the number of people in the circle; m is the skip and r is the number left at the end i.e. convergence. This is the convergence plot for the above problem.
@goghritaM At convergence the survivor string will be 000000000000000000001000000000
where 1 is survivor. At round 6 the survivor string is
111100000110111010011000100110
The 1s are where the brAhmaNa-s stood and thieves who were eaten by durgA at the 0s
@goghritaM The ultimate survivor position circulates as n increases. I am unaware of any closed form for it.
@goghritaM For large n we can see a certain fractal pattern in the survivorship graph
