We're done with #RSALatinAmerica and I have a few things to share. As many of you may know, I gave a couple of talks within an #AcWri workshop organized by @sergemont with the support of @regstud @ACIUR_Colombia and @CiderUniandes - two of the talks I gave centered around these:

These are NOT the only resources I have generated.
I have a page of Resources and several sub-pages that you can reveal if you hover over the word "Resources" (as shown below). I write my blog as a resource for my own students, although for many years now I have opened this knowledge base to scholars worldwide, as a public good.
I'm not "an academic blogger". I am a full-time, tenure-track professor who studies comparative public policy and uses environmental case studies to show the paradoxes around cooperation and conflict for resource governance. This means...

- I do this on borrowed time, for free.
I've tried to organize my blog by topics (Literature Reviews, Writing a Book, Writing a Paper). Below you can see a photo of my Literature Reviews section. If you can't find it by menu, my blog has a handy Search function that you can use as well. I don't charge for public goods

Again, for those who believe I love travelling:

I HATE TRAVELLING.

I love doing the things I'm supposed to be doing while travelling, but the actual act of packing, taking a plane, or a bus, having to sit for hours, adapting to jet lag/new environmental conditions?

HATE IT.
I am learning to be generous with my body and myself and add a couple of days (usually weekend) to adapt to my new environment as I travel. Because no matter what, I'm my first (and sometimes only) and most important advocate. I have to take care of myself, at all points.
I travel a lot for work, not because "I love it". I have important commitments and I do them not only willingly but also happily. Distances are the issue, obviously. It'd be great if I could be just "ENERGIZE" and be vaporized into a different location for every trip I make.

Thanks everyone who recommended my site to @cwalterswrite (who's starting a PhD and is in first semester). I remember my first year very clearly because I wanted to write my PhD comprehensive exams at the end of it (I was young, naive and stupid. Most programs allow 2 years).
I want to suggest things that I've written about.

1) Develop a STRUCTURED daily routine raulpacheco.org/2018/11/develo…

3) Start thinking about what you want to study

5) Even if you're not at the point to develop a DTP, think of research questions

I’m not sure what magic caused this to appear in my timeline but it gave me a nudge at a point where I really needed a nudge (or maybe a good hard shove). It also spoke to a core fear: that I’d get there and nobody would believe me. How can this be a problem now at 48?
But of course it wasn’t just now - it’s been at least since university DVD probably before. It was just never noticed because I could gut through things and was basically quiet. The more I read about ADHD, the more things made sense.
So anyway, I went in yesterday. I had bad allergies as a cover story in case I lost my nerve. But they listened to me and now I’m going back next week to see where it goes.

I'm tackling this from an Evangelical-to-atheist trajectory, although I certainly don't believe all atheists were once religious, nor do I believe that they're only atheist cause they're mad at god or the divine.
However, in the broad spectrum of human experience, it helps to start somewhere and (hi, have you met me?) this happens to be one of my interest areas so we're starting here.

So I'm going to talk a little bit about doing work for free. Conventional wisdom states that you should never work for free for all the obvious reasons. But some reasons aren't always obvious to those on the outside. [1/many]
Firstly, what is "doing work for free"? I'm not talking about volunteering or any kind of altruism. I'm talking about our regular creative work (writing, designing, coding, whatever) that we would normally charge for. [2/many]
So what work would I choose to give away for free? For me personally, I've chosen to do small websites for friends/family over the years, and more recently I've designed a few free book covers as part of a possible career change. [3/many]
