A young man dives into the gay scene, falls in love with drag, meets a young transwoman.

@DouglasKMurray He starts to feel that he's "born in the wrong body" and plucks up the courage to see his doctor...and then more doctors, trying to find someone who'll affirm him.

@DouglasKMurray Eventually he is referred to a psycho-sexual service and after 3 1/2 hours of 'therapy' he's told "You're trans"

@DouglasKMurray And then the clincher: the consultant says,

"We know it is a problem with the brain. We can't operate on the brain so we do our best to make the body match the brain."

@DouglasKMurray This poor chap went on a regime of drugs for two years, and all that time he was struggling, not knowing if what he was doing was right.

But all he got from the NHS was affirmation and encouragement to finish the pathway.

@DouglasKMurray Eventually he realized that the drugs he was taking were doing immense damage to his body - in his words, bringing him to 'the point of being permanent'.

So he desisted - a unilateral decision.

@DouglasKMurray Coming off the drugs was 'much more severe' than coming on them. But he got through it - although he doesn't know yet if they've made him permanently sterile.

@DouglasKMurray This is just one case of detransition. @jamesfreespeech tried to research rates of detransition, but TRAs bullied @BathSpaUni, which caved into their demands.

@DouglasKMurray @jamesfreespeech @BathSpaUni Without research, more and more young men and women (and boys and girls) will do immense damage to themselves, all because of a fleeting feeling - of dysphoria, of youthful unhappiness that they somehow link to their own bodies.

@DouglasKMurray @jamesfreespeech @BathSpaUni That is why we need to talk about trans. That is why we are fighting for the right to discuss these issues.

That is why we call for TRAs to change their tactics from cowardly bullying to honest debate
