I have given Romney approximately one metric ton of crap over the years, but this is significant. If he ends up voting to protect Trump it’ll all be for show, and arguably worse than if he’d just fallen in line from the beginning. But on its own merits, for now, it’s meaningful.

For instance, Trump is spending today arguing he cared about corruption, not hurting Biden. That's obviously not true and Dems can and should yell it from the rooftops. But having a Republican voice rebutting it on record is a big deal for the coverage today and in the future.
Some folks in my TL are saying variations of "actions, not words." And I 100% agree that's the ultimate test. But you're not going to get to the action without statements like this first. There's no world in which Romney or any other R just comes out and calls for impeachment.
