The idea that Warren’s coverage is a magic ingredient in her rise is bonkers. This piece accepts it as a given. But when Warren announced, press widely wrote her off as DOA. Unlikable. Pocahontas, Hillary 2.0... you name it, she got it. She is rising now *despite* all that.
The urge to find some reason for Warren’s success other than the fact that 👏 she 👏 fucking 👏 did 👏 it 👏 herself 👏 is strong, and bad.
Yes! As if we’re all overwhelmed by news alerts and front page coverage of policy ideas.

The story is a classic in the genre of dude who understands nothing confidently explains everything.

I have given Romney approximately one metric ton of crap over the years, but this is significant. If he ends up voting to protect Trump it’ll all be for show, and arguably worse than if he’d just fallen in line from the beginning. But on its own merits, for now, it’s meaningful.

For instance, Trump is spending today arguing he cared about corruption, not hurting Biden. That's obviously not true and Dems can and should yell it from the rooftops. But having a Republican voice rebutting it on record is a big deal for the coverage today and in the future.

The “frontrunner” whose campaign whines to press that their coverage doesn’t capture his true strength spent a week floating attacks on Warren then dispatched a surrogate to pen a lame op-ed attacking her a day before the debate.

Biden 2020 is Clinton 2008 and Ed Rendell is Bill Shaheen. Like, history is repeating itself as we watch.
Biden can whine and lash out at his opponents all he wants, but his problem isn’t his coverage or Warren or anyone else. It’s that everyone knows who he is and what’s he’s offering, and 75% of primary voters want someone else. His ceiling is on him.

The piece includes your obligatory reminder that the 60-vote threshold was *not* an original feature of the Senate. Its use today, erroneously accepted as timeless, is a mutation of a rule that was introduced in 1917 and rarely invoked for the first half-century of its existence.
When Washington described the Senate to Jefferson as the saucer that cools the tea, he was not talking about the supermajority threshold because none existed at that time or would for 100+ years. He was talking about 6 year terms, statewide representation and staggered elections.

Genetic testing shows I am 1% western African. Based on Warren's standard of truth, I could claim to be African-American, giving me preferential minority status and special assistance. She & her team are trying to deal w/ this issue in anticipation of a matchup against Trump.
I've exchanged messages with black family history researchers who have been surprised to find that we are blood relatives. I'm proud to have that DNA connection to Africa, but I don't use it to claim that I'm African American.

I was really hoping to elect a person of color, and I still have some interest in Harris. But she's getting too much heat for her prosecutor background. Besides Warren has the most policies that align with my view of America, AND she knows how to make those goals achievable!
And Buttigieg... I'm still learning about his ability to govern, but I'm continually impressed by how worldly and hella SMART he is. and he's obviously had some inside experience of oppression as a gay man from middle America.
