/ It occurred to me that someday my children will learn that I am TeslaCharts. I compose this thread in part as an open letter to them. I've always taught them to embrace and learn from their errors. Here are my biggest mistakes and why I made them.
/ I tweeted that $TSLA would never produce more than 5,000 cars per week in Fremont because I believed they were limited by paint shop emissions and permits. I never imagined Elon would simply put less paint on every car. This was a mistake.
/ I always assumed $TSLA would collapse under the weight of service issues once the Model 3 reached scale. I never imagined Elon would simply refuse to honor warranties and make it very hard to schedule service. This was a mistake.
/ I believed $TSLA couldn't raise after the 420 fiasco. I never imagined a CEO could fake an $80B buyout offer on twitter in the middle of the trading day and survive it, or that he could flip his middle finger to the SEC multiple times with no consequence. This was a mistake.
/ I thought the @NHTSAgov would force $TSLA to recall Autopilot after the first wave of crashes proved predictable abuse. I never imagined they would be so corrupt as to lie about Autopilot safety and work for years to cover up their role in this fraud. This was a mistake.
/ I thought the @FTC would not allow $TSLA to sell FSD vaporware to the public for three full years without comment. I thought selling vaporware is illegal. I did not know about the billionaire exception to common law. This was a mistake.
/ I thought the media would turn on Elon in the same way they turned on Elizabeth Holmes after it became clear the solar roof tile was faked to enable a fraudulent related-party bailout. I still don't understand why they haven't. This is an ongoing mistake.
/ I thought having virtually every experienced executive quit on Elon, including every senior finance and accounting leader of consequence, would matter to investors. I thought investors did some diligence on company leadership. This was a mistake.
/ I hope this open letter gives you some context as you explore the past couple of years of activity. I'm sure I've missed many mistakes, but these are the big ones. Call things as you see them in the moment, but always be ready admit where you messed up. TC
