Many Republicans fetishize our constitution and our founding fathers. They talk about 1776 and the original “ideals” of our country with their bumper stickers and their internet memes but I’m not sure if these people have actually READ our constitution.
If they did, they would see that Trump has obstructed justice, CLEARLY violated The Emoluments Clause, and is likely violating other parts as well. Is the constitution still important to these folks or should we tear it up and crown King Donald to the throne?
No thanks. I’ll take the advice of James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and Ben Franklin before I listen to Stephen Miller and Rudy Giuliani.

The integrity of our U.S. Senators will soon be tested when Articles of Impeachment are brought to the body from the House.  Will our senators uphold their oath or will they go down in history as lemmings who were afraid to do the right thing?
This is truly a "Profiles in Courage" time for our country and the result will impact America for decades to come.
This president has likely violated the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution, enriching himself and his family at the expense of taxpayers. He has failed to provide any semblance of moral leadership, resorting to demeaning and small-minded barbs.

Conservatives fashion themselves at being “good at money” but their inaction on climate change proves otherwise.
The ultimate irony about their delayed action is that the longer we wait, the more it costs! Had we started taking action 30 years ago, we’d be talking about a much smaller price tag. Want to know something even more ironic?
Conservatives complain about the “government in their lives” but inaction on climate change will only result in MORE government in our lives. When there is a natural disaster, who has to clean up the mess? Correct. Government (FEMA, etc).

Today, a statue of Standing Bear will be unveiled at the US Capitol in statuary hall.

Standing Bear was a Ponca chief whose homeland covered parts of Northern Nebraska. He brought a lawsuit against the United States Army in 1879 after he was forcibly removed from his land.
At this point in our history, the United States had signed 371 treaties with Native peoples and violated all 371 of those treaties.
At a U.S. District Court in Omaha, attorneys from both sides argued back and forth. Near the end of the trial, the judge announced that Chief Standing Bear could speak. According to an official account, he arose, held out his right hand and stood motionless. Finally he said:

Americans are once again allowing the Republican and Democrat party divide us over race, when in fact race is not the issue! Please look at the foreign policies these woman support, and the policies they do not support! This is not about race & we must address the real issues!

The vote on the #NationalEmergency gave #Republicans a clear choice: put the Constitution first, or put @realDonaldTrump first.

The Founding Fathers granted the Congress the power of the purse to decide how to allocate funds.
Yet many #Republicans will raid funds appropriated by Congress to our armed forces to pay for @realDonaldTrump’s Big Dumb Wall.

This creates precedent for a future Democratic president to act unilaterally on real crises, like mass shootings and #climate change.
Next it will be up to #Republicans in Congress to decide how to respond to a presidential veto.

We will see where they stand in this contest between #Trump and the #Constitution.
