THREAD ↘️
The misogyny is so much worse this year than it was in 2016. I honestly didn't think that was possible.
The 24/7 push for Biden seems like the most inexplicable Democratic move since everything I have ever read about Humphrey in 1968.
I just don't get it.
1/
I would have thought the way the Biden team set out to destroy Kamala Harris after she won the first debate would have turned folks away from him. His wife saying on prime time TV that "America isn't buying it" about her and implying Harris was a liar was awful. But crickets.
2/
And Biden's team calling Harris "slippery & slick" -- more implication that she wasn't to be trusted. And Biden going on his pal Chris Cuomo's show, like Trump on Hannity & acting the victim of Harris when he had a terrible debate. I mean when do folks look at the trajectory?
3/
Then Gabbard tag-teamed with Biden in the 2nd debate, forgiving his Iraq War vote then attacking Harris as a prosecutor.
Just as a news analyst who has covered politics since Biden's 1st run for president, it is bizarre to me. Especially since Biden was 1st to trash Hillary.
4/
I understand folks have fealty to Obama. But Obama chose Hillary, not Biden, to be his standard bearer. And said this year about Biden running "You don't have to do this, Joe."
Can anyone elucidate Biden's platform? Or is it just "he was Obama's VP" and that is enough?
5/
As both a journalist and someone who has been personally harmed by Trump, I want voters to understsnd that Democrats need a forward-thinking nominee who can be the 2024 incumbent and lead from Day 1. We knew we would have that in Hillary because she had always led.
6/
Also, Biden has lost twice before--never getting out of Iowa. Ignoring that fact seems naive at best. And thinking black voters can save a Biden nomination (I actually have met/interviewed mostly black voters for Harris) if young voters abandon the Democrats is unrealistic.
7/
If the quotient is electability, the most electable candidates based on record of only winning elections are actually Harris, Buttigieg and Klobuchar. I am not touting any candidate here. But if Hillary was supposed to go knit, how on earth is Biden the white savior du jour?
8/
And all the folks saying Bernie is too old? Then what is Biden, who has campaigned much less vigorously and exponentially more problematically than Bernie?
Just remember, we have to do this again in 2024. Against the new, young, even scarier branch of the GOP.
9/
If voters aren't contributing to Biden, who has 100% name recignition, ask yourselves why.
Just some things to consider. Polls of a few hundred people here and there are not as great a litmus as donations from single donors. It's four months till Iowa. Read up on everyone.
