There’s govts all over the world who’ve partnered w/ U.S. & who’ve come to rely on U.S. political guarantees that are seriously reassessing the basic security dynamics in their regions following news of Syria pullout. That will affect U.S. interests from the Balkans to East Asia.
Even if the U.S. elects more “traditional” POTUS in 2020, Trump has convinced allies & foes alike of inherent unpredictability of American *electorate*. No longer any credible guarantees there won’t be a Trump 2.0 etc. That’s a structural, generational blow to U.S. credibility.
Note also that as TUR military prepares to assault Kurdish positions in Syria, Erdogan is in Serbia opening the TUR-financed Belgrade-Sarajevo highway. This too is a sign of waning U.S. (& EU) influence, the emerging powers stepping into the vacuum. klix.ba/clanak/1910071…
