The Supreme Court starts hearings today to decide if gay and transgender people are protected from job discrimination.

If the court rules against that, LGBTQ employees fired or discriminated against will have limited ability to seek justice under federal law.

The Supreme Court is hearing cases from 3 people who say they were fired over being gay or transgender:

▪️ Gerald Bostock, fired after joining a gay-friendly softball league
▪️ Donald Zarda, fired after revealing he was gay

What is Title VII?

▪️ The civil rights law protects workers from job discrimination on the basis of: sex, race, color, religion or national origin.

▪️ Today's Supreme Court hearings are to decide if it covers gay and transgender people.

▪️ The Obama admin. interpreted it does.

Aimee Stephens is 1 of 3 people suing in landmark cases that could decide what protections LGBTQ employees have under federal law.

She says she was fired after revealing she is transgender.

She is attending arguments despite poor health and 3-times weekly dialysis treatments.

Actress/activist @LaverneCox went to the Supreme Court to support demonstrators protesting for equality:

"Discrimination against anyone because of who they are should not be the way we live our lives in the United States of America."
