I understand many people don't watch the news. They don't care about politics. They have a life to live and they have picked politics as an area to avoid. I understand there are others that listen to just enough to stay current with the days events. Fair enough.
There are still others that enjoy politics. It's a hobby of theirs. Others make it a passion. It's all good. To each their own as they say.

....less intelligent or less knowledgeable on certain matters but majority aren't idiots. Look around you. Are you an idiot? Your wife? Your husband? Your adult children? Their spouses? Your friends? Are they functionally unable to manage their own lives? Pay their bills?
Make their own decisions? Raise their children? Maintain friendships? Drive a car? Most adults are fully capable of living their lives with little need for help. Most adults if given truthful information will make somewhat logical decisions.
It's only when you start to believe that everyone but you is an idiot that you begin to accept that government is needed to control the masses, that lies are okay because you are doing what's best for them. Your fear ramps up thinking that those idiots may have power over you.
You blindly follow those evil enough to use your fear to grab power. The best answer for that fear is small government not more government. If on the off chance that an idiot does get into power, she won't be able to impact your life very much if you have a small limited gov.
