Been thinking about anti war activist life back then, before social media. Seeing these images, so seared in my memory from that time but NOT via social media. A strange time warp, 2003-2019. We weren’t digital, we were millions in the street...& *still* couldn’t stop the war.
This has tossed me into a deep well of sadness, this feeling like I've taken the hand of my 25-year-old self, who marched with Bread & Puppet Theater past the White House, organized with peace activists at Middle Church & listened to @BeauSia recite an anti-war poem at the UN...
@BeauSia ...I've taken the hand of my more idealistic 25-year-old self & brought him into the future and shown that nothing changed.

The war came.

It ravishes on 16 years later.

George W. Bush faced no consequences.

In fact, he's buddy buddy with a gay icon of 2003.
@BeauSia Bush won. Both a second term, and a mostly consequence free place in history.

Millions of Iraqis lost.

Ken Melman—Bush's closeted hit man who orchestrated the anti-gay Ohio campaign—is now welcomed by Gay Inc.

It's all so sad.
@BeauSia The only good thing I can even conceive of in this moment: an enormous risk of Trump was that he would rehabilitate the more "respectable" Bush. Lord knows the Obamas & Clintons have tried to grease these wheels.

But queers & other radical have shown they ain't having it.
@BeauSia As sad and painful as it has been, it has been lovely to vist with my 25-year-old self again, and to listen to his anger, passion, rage & resolve.

Goodnight (to everyone except George W. Bush and those who give him comfort and aid in times of his war making.)
