While making $35 BILLION in profit, GM has cut off health insurance to its striking workers.

Do you like working in a society where, if you speak back for better conditions, your employer can say, “We will deny life needed medicine & kill you, your spouse & your children”?
Whole Foods—owned by literally the richest man on the Earth—is cutting health insurance for its workers.

Do you like living in a society where a CEO can literally have more money than any of the other 7 billion of us & STILL say to the workers, “No healthcare for you. Go die.”
When I was repped by UAW in two shops, I had good health insurance. Yet the necropolitical power—what Mbembe calls the right to decide who might live & who must die—is still NOT appropriate. Employers should NOT be able to issue a death decree to employees at moments of conflict.
As a journalist & professor—two professions which should seek freedom of thought & political freedom for all—I believe Medicare for All is urgently needed. It would deny employers the power to say, “No complaints from you & no political stands from you, or we might kill you.”
Indeed, @j_zimms. Who *likes* a system where a worker can have a daughter who is diabetic, and the richest man on earth could get to decide whether she should will get the insulin she needs—or whether she should just die?
@j_zimms Another reason ppl in my fields ought to support Medicare for All: the current ableist power structure supports what @Lollardfish calls a “cult of compliance.” That victims of police violence are disproportionately disabled is part of how we are vioelently forced to comply...
@j_zimms @Lollardfish ...but we are also compelled to comply (to not complain, to only have a certain range of politics, to not change jobs easily) because employers have this necropolitcal power via health insurance. And this keeps writers & ALL workers from being able to express & think freely.
