THE DEATH OF STALIN is, in my opinion, good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and subject to upgrade upon rewatch.
I can see how the juxtaposition of Iannucci’s IN THE LOOP cringe with the horror of history wouldn’t take but for me it worked like crazy; the humor framed the atrocity without negating it and got at something bracing that a straightforward version could miss.
It’s also a hell of a movie to watch during this particular week of American politics.

It’s weird how Benny Facts stops wanting to debate the issues the instant he sees the topic as threatening him.

It’s almost like his marketplace was never ideas.
One interesting thing about gay people is, they never picked up guns and started shooting politicians— even after decades of relentless persecution.

But my man cracked after one town hall.

That’s a fact. It doesn’t care about Ben‘s feelings.
Oliver Sipple saved Gerald Ford from being shot by an assassin. When the media found out he was gay, the outing destroyed his life.

Ford sent him a note of thanks. For whatever reason, Sipple was not invited to the White House.

That’s also a fact.

I don’t think Twitter should let trump tweet from the White House. But I feel equally strongly that they should allow him to tweet from prison.
I also think the prison to which he’s sent should be an exact replication of the HBO TV show OZ.

I understand that this may not be a popular view ... but I have never courted popularity.
Look, it’s not a good idea. But you have to admit it is *an* idea.

You know, lllllllooooooootttt of us #OnHere *rationalized* that most people pay only cursory attention to what’s happening, so not impeaching makes people think whatever the infraction was isn’t impeachable, and the reverse would obviously apply for impeaching.

And whatdya know.
Funny thing: actually doing what’s right might succeed, and might capture public support; but not doing what’s right never does.

And yes, it might fail, but at least the failure wasn’t assured, and at least you didn’t defeat yourself.

And at least you did what’s right.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
