I wanted to share with you a quick story on how Congress’s rules sometimes don’t make sense for people new to DC, like me. This happens from time to time as I learn the customs of this place, which can sometimes be maddening. (1/6)
Yesterday, I hosted a roundtable on domestic violence prevention and response. With so many important groups at the table, I thought maybe I could create a resource guide for OC families that contact my office looking for help. (2/6)
So I called the Ethics Committee to see if there were limitations on what info I could provide. I did so with the understanding that there were non-govt organizations at the table whose information I maybe couldn’t include. (3/6)
Turns out, I’m not allowed to provide any information AT ALL. They would technically count as an “endorsement,” even for local government contacts like the sheriffs office, or or local nonprofit domestic violence support groups. (4/6)
So places like... @HumanOptions or @Lauras_House or @211OrangeCounty, which serve OC families? Yup, I can’t put their info in a resource guide. (5/6)
It’s time for Congress to be a little more nuanced. This places loves rules even when they’re not in the service of justice. See the last time this happened: rollcall.com/news/congress/…

In the meantime, I wanted to pull the curtain back & let Americans know I’ll keep pushing. (6/6)
