SGR was sold as an economic imperative necessary to achieve vision 2030. Its cost (mostly taken by land compensation) & urgency, point to another imperative. Land rents. Phase 2B to Naivasha was a detour. Who benefits from SGR project? Let's see..

The phase 2B (to Naivasha) and the dry port at Naivasha were a detour from the main plan. But notably, there is a Kenyan family that owns vast farms in Nakuru, Njoro & Rongai from early days of Jomo & has added more recently.

After the SGR detour to Naivasha, the urgency in completing the remaining phases has evaporated. The project is so unattractive that Uganda had to be bribed (land) to buy into it. Museveni could've seen the economic rationale, if present, without a bribe.

But not just Uganda, South Sudan needed an incentive to buy into it. So they got 10 acres, similar treat in Lamu port for the LAPSSET (another white elephant) & promise to buy their gas. The projects are being bulldozed has nothing to do with our welfare.

NIC bank acquires the Jamii Bora's KQ loan of sh412 mn in June around the time CBA-NIC merger is expected to be finalized.
KQ offers to acquire JKIA from KAA ...

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."

Dow Industrials down 7 consecutive days & futures point to another down open while FANG-driven Nasdaq continues to hit records. Dow 2000 points down from late-Jan. peak (S&P peak too). My May 4 newsletter subsection title: "In the First Phase of the Bear, Tech Investors Rotate"
From that section: "Since most tech investors in the first phase of the bear are not anywhere near ready to abandon tech stocks(that will come later), they'll do what they've done in the past...rotate into the "invincible" tech stars." Happened in 1990,2000 & 2007(prior 3 bears)
Since the "invincible" tech stars continue to hit records, few notice the broad deterioration in overall stock mkt. The bulls don't see they're already several months into a bear market - this time driven by the obvious catalysts of higher interest rates, QT, & a global trade war
