1. Nurse novels (and their offshoot, Nurse comic books) were a big genre once. Let's imagine a world where they came to dominate entertainment the way the superhero genre has.
2. In Earth-Nurse-Genre, all he big Hollywood movies are nurse movies. All the nurse novels get adapted for film or Netflix or HBO. To make an art movie you have to do dark, grim nurse movies.
3. In the world where nurse stories are the dominant genre, fans of other genres (say super-heroes) will be grousing that their preferred entertainment is being crowded out by the plethora of nurse movies. And they'd be right.

1. This "Tulsi Gabbard is being groomed to be a Russian asset" thing is another depressing example of how a subset of centrists & liberals have allowed CIA cosplaying to replace the actual work of politics.
2. Part of the problem is the term "asset" is deliberately vague, covering both those actively being compromised by foreign powers & those promoted by foreign power (which is not something can control). This was the logic FBI used to spy on antiwar movement.
3. Let's see how the logic plays out. a) main evidence Gabbard is Russian asset is Russian bots promote her b) Gabbard gained 50,000 followers after Clinton attack c) so is Clinton a Gabbard asset (and by extension a Russian asset)?

1. On the impeachment front, I've been re-thinking the idea that Dems should go with a quick & focused Ukraine-only impeachment. Trump's own behavior makes that impossible.
2. Trump can't mount a normal legal defense, his only response is to pile on insults, accusations and lies on top of insults, accusations and lies.
3. Trump's response to impeachment is to keep expanding the behavior that makes him impeachable. So by necessity, there will have to be a bigger impeachment. thenation.com/article/trump-…

1. The Harold Bloom conversation seems to be people talking at cross-purposes with one group saying "let's celebrate the great man's work" & another saying "he was a creep & predator." But maybe the two sides can be linked? What's the relationship between the life & work?
2. I thought this Times obituary did a disservice to Bloom by foregrounding his banal late-period "Western canon is 💯" rather than the scholarly work that his lasting reputation rests on (the advocacy for the romantics & "Anxiety of Influence"
3. I'm not the biggest fan of Freud or Bloom but "Anxiety of Influence" did help return history to literary studies (in a period of arid formalism) by showing the richness of poets responding to each other. Also: Bloom wasn't cowed by Eliot/Pound's dismissal of the romantics
