EU Commission:

"Michel Barnier had a constructive meeting this morning w/ Steve Barclay.

On that basis you can assume they have exchanged ideas and they discussed many different things. "

Refuses to go into details as MB briefing ambassadors & EU needs to formalise position.
Commission asked if there is hope for a Brexit deal. Spokes says she won't go into emotions but...

"We are working towards a deal because that is our determination

If there is a will, there is a way because otherwise people would not be working on this. "
Commission spokes says that Tusk, who was earlier cautiously optimistic about deal's prospects, Ireland and Varadkar, and the commission have been constantly in contact.

Adds that they are all "on the same page"

Good morning! Today the Senate Judiciary Committee is having a hearing Sen. Graham's "Secure and Protect Act," his plan to rewrite asylum laws.

Importantly, this will be Acting DHS Secretary @DHSMcAleenan's first appearance since Friday's tariffs announcement.

The bill would allow for vastly expanded detention of families and children, block asylum for anyone not going to a port of entry, and create other new limits on asylum.

The judge is sitting and going through some admin. He says he is hoping to hand down what will be judgment no. 5 by the end of the day. It relates to his refusal to allow the Post Office to appeal the Common Issues trial judgment.

Asked what #May needs to "have in her bag" when she goes to Brussels to ask for #Brexit extra time, #Juncker told @DLF that "approval of the negotiated [Withdrawal] Agreement" is precondition for extension.
.@JunckerEU on @DLF: "My assessment... we'll probably have to meet again next week because Mrs May doesn't have approval for anything — not in her Cabinet and not in Parliament. As long as we don't know what Britain could say yes to, we can't come to any decision."

Juncker delivered his last #SOTEU2018 speech. Here are my major takeaways in a tweet #thread @CER_EU
1. As media had previously reported #Juncker decided not to focus on what his Commission achieved but on what still needs to be done to convince European citizens to say 'Yes' to the EU when they go to the polls next year.
2. I agree that it is not a good moment for pats on the back and I agree with #Juncker that member-states have in many respects held the Commission up from delivering on Commission's promises.

Good morning sports fans it's day two of the #cpc18. I'm not there yet, but my coverage is starting early thanks to internet feelers I put out yesterday. I'm hearing that axing supply management has been scheduled as the last policy vote in it's session.
And that because it's the last vote in the session party members are going to try and run the clock on the policy session so it never comes to a vote, and therefore is shot down without being explicitly voted against.
I'll try and chase that down once I'm actually there.
