My view is that at the outset of a General Election campaign the opposition parties should cooperate in an attack on the right-wing press and on Tory social media manipulation. The right-wing press is arguably a more powerful electoral force than the Tory party.
The opposition parties must promote the loud and clear message that the right-wing press is providing massive propaganda for the Tory right while being wholly uncontrolled by election spending rules, and that its lies and disinformation are perverting our democracy.
And of course the great thing about attacking the right-wing press and social media manipulation is that it is a campaign that can unite all the opposition parties, and it should be effective at firing-up opposition voters. Murdoch and the Barclays make great targets. 
The other thing that has to be done is that the public has to be warned about the torrent of targeted deceit and disinformation that will be poured out on Facebook. We need to sow the seeds of doubt regarding such messages.
