Those accusing the LibDems of anti-democratic extremism have succumbed to plebiscitary dementia. The LibDems are advocating something called 'Parliamentary democracy'. It's a very interesting idea which the LibDems' detractors really should take a look at.
I believe the response to the referendum has done immense harm to our democracy, in particular in injecting our political culture with the idea of the "Will of the People", a notion absolutely toxic to democracy, which demonises political opponents as "enemies of the people".
I think it is essential that we return to Parliamentary democracy. UK-wide referendums should be banned until such time as the overwhelming majority of people, politicians and journalists understand the difference between Parliamentary democracy and plebiscitary dictatorship.
