I get Macron enjoys his power & likes playing Napoleon, but he’s just trashed a decade of EU policy by arbitrarily vetoing further expansion & now threatens to destroy French businesses & lives of French cits in UK with no-deal. Can’t he leave the malignant narcissism to Johnson?
The hilarious thing is this is literally the guy who wants to lead Europe, and with each passing move he is making himself the most isolated leader in the entire club
Sorry if Napoleon reference caused offence. I didn’t at all mean in Fra/UK context but in Macron’s emperor complex, which I think is a problem. He’s unilaterally trying to change EU policy on expansion & unlike other leaders, will now be seen to intervene in UK domestic politics

Maybe we need to face up to the fact that Benn Act was too timid and 31st Jan too soon. We need six to eight months to resolve this: an election followed by Brexit bill or election followed by referendum.
If 12 December is out, we can’t campaign over Christmas, so election happens in Feb at earliest. That allows time for an immediate referendum. We can’t now have a referendum before an election. There aren’t the numbers & gov will fight it tooth and nail.

I get Johnson wants a people vs parliament election and wants to make it look as though he’s been dragged kicking & screaming away from 31 Oct, but this tactic has a shelf life. Eventually it makes you look petulant, weak, dishonest and most importantly, not in control of events.
If everyone can see that what you are promising is bollocks, then maybe they’ll start asking what else you are promising might be bollocks. It’s not as though we need 5 years to discover the 31 Oct pledge is garbage: Johnson’s lie will be exposed in literally a week’s time.
Now must be the time to accept defeat. The ongoing struggle to defy all reality makes him look desperate, pathetic and an inveterate liar. His opponents have long known he’s all that - but you’d think he wouldn’t want the message to filter quite so directly to his target voters

Senior Tory rebels have been in to see Johnson and have basically come back out describing the meeting as being crap, and the Johnson is still sticking to the claim that the whip will be withdrawn from any Tory MP that votes against the government

All the current rumblings from Labour still seem to indicate that they won't back a vote calling for a General Election unless legislation is in place to stop a No Deal Brexit on 31 October, but that's still a case of wait and see

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.
