#HongKongPolice are stationed on every block along Nathan Road, starting from St.Andrew’s Church. And some look incredibly bored. Someone on my bus commented “what a nice job, stand here, do nothing and you earn OT.”
Riot police advancing from Cultural Centre now clearing protesters from Salisbury Road. “Blame the protesters,” an officer told civilians, who asked why they had to leave.
Unsure where riot police want protesters to go, pushing them from the sidewalk on Salisbury Road has only forced them onto the road. Now police officers are blocking the traffic themselves. Also note that most protesters here are not wearing any gear.
Teargas fired on Salisbury Road. Crowd retreating along Nathan Road, many coughing from the teargas that’s spreading quick and fast on this windy day.
Rather ironic when riot police standing on Nathan Road told protesters to leave Salisbury Road because they’re blocking a major thoroughfare.
This couple with matching caps in their late seventies are out on the streets despite the teargas. “We haven’t been out much recently as MTR always closes certain stations, but TST station is open today so here we are,” says the husband. “We (as in HK) can’t afford to lose.”
Riot police now outside Chungking Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui. Some are also stationed on the intersection of Nathan Road and Haiphong Road.
A group of elderly that just came out from a concert are stuck on Kimberly Road. They’re waiting for their tourist bus, which is likely blocked on Nathan Road.
Riot police that were outside Kowloon Park are now returning to the TST police station. A handful remain outside, another group across the road and on Austin Road intersection.
Water cannon truck and another armoured police vehicle moving along Nathan Road in Yau Ma Tei. Police officers got off the vehicle to clear the roadblock and make way for the police water cannon.
Nvm. After clearing the roadblock, the two vehicles went into reverse and returned to its original position near Gascoigne Road.
I know masks have been banned, but not helmets. So why the pot...?
Some of the protest graffiti I’ve seen along Nathan Road, including a quote from George Orwell’s 1984. “If there’s hope, it lies in the proles.”
And a quote from French philosopher Albert Camus’s The Rebel (Yes, I googled that).
This quote came from Chinese philosopher Guan Zhong, who served as a chancellor during the Warring States period and was a reformer of his time. It basically means a state prospers by listening to its people and fails if it goes against them.
Police officers rushed out from unmarked vehicles to make arrests outside Eaton Hotel in Jordan. A group of protesters gathered to film the arrests and shouted at them. Pepper sprayed unleashed. And black flag, tear gas warning, raised.
Water cannon deployed near Mody Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, according to @mingpaocom.
Protesters heading towards Mong Kok along Nathan Road. Briefly ran into the water cannon and police vehicles on their way to TST, but they didn’t stop. So protesters have regrouped and continued. That’s a surprisingly peaceful encounter...
Spotted in Mong Kok. Not the most pressing issues at hand, but I’m glad someone is raising it, assuming this is against the commercialisation of education.
Posters outside a MTR elevator, urging protesters not to vandalise it, as it’s used by the elderly and disabled.
1900 Teargas fired outside HSBC, intersection of Argyle Street and Nathan Road.
Many shops that have been target of vandalism due to their ties with China have fortified their storefront. But Xiaomi is on another level, check out these iron walls...
Roadblocks set up along Nathan Road and Mong Kok Road, including these nails that were drilled onto the pavement.
Riot police arrived, raised black flag as soon as they got off the car and fired several shots of tear gas towards Nathan Road even though protesters are not around. One engaged in a shouting match with some civilians.
Paramedics treating pepper sprayed and tear gassed protesters in MongKok. Some others were vomiting and choking from the tear gas, given many came out without proper gear. More teargas fired on Nathan Road as I typed.
Paramedics treating a man who was pepper sprayed in the eyes with running water and an ice pack.
A daily view in #HongKong now - riot police.
And less than a block away, life continues, as it must.
A police officer pointing his gun right at the camera of a City U SU Editorial Board reporter.
Crowds in MongKok cheered after a petrol bomb went off in an exit of MTR Mong Kok station.
Riot police, followed by special tactical force members, ran down Argyle Street. Not a massive crowd on the sidewalk, but the few, who are here are heckling loudly and seem almost amused by the scene.
When you run out of paint...
Inmedia captured this photo of teargas fired on Nathan Road half an hour ago.
