the deadspin debacle, and media in general, is a great example of why we need universal guaranteed housing, utilities, etc. shit needing to be run "for profit" is the death of everything good
just thinkin about capitalism again and imagine how much shit we could accomplish if we weren't forced to do menial bullshit jobs to afford the privilege of living
its real cool to think that if you stop making /enough/ money then you're basically on a timer until you die one way or another.

Witnessed (by which I mean "stood in the hallway staring, mouth agape") a "conversation" between a woman (employee?) and man (boss?), in which the latter was basically having a temper tantrum about... something.
The guy was Very Upset, raising his voice, gesticulating, accusing the other person of ... making him look dumb? Some other stuff, I guess? Also stuff like "do you want to just throw down right here", etc.
I don't recall the specifics of that conversation other than I was honestly worried it was going to go beyond assault and into actual battery, but also a real great example of toxic, narcissistic management.

Time for a rant on governance. Blockchain governance has been a pseudo-intellectual discussion among the maladroit programmers who largely occupy the space. A good recent example is the Decred project. A good old example is the Dash project.
Governance isn't simple. And progressive governance isn't progress. Certainly, it might seem like a good idea to have a nimble project that can add features on a whim. This works on a project with infinite capacity. Facebook can add and delete features as it sees fit.
Google can release shit projects and kill them as it sees fit. But blockchains cannot. Features that are built in are un-strip-able. You can't separate them. A good example in government is tax law. Once a tax has been "temporarily imposed" it won't ever be stripped.

There is nothing automatic about #profit. In fact, 9 of 10 startups fail. Which means they go under and the investor often loses money, time, and effort put into creating and running the business. But it still creates jobs for those employed, even though fortune.com/2014/09/25/why…

One of the problems of the whole "static vs dynamic typing" correctness debate is that switching your language is incredibly expensive for a marginal benefit. Most of the biggest wins in correctness come from process. Here's some _empirically_ great ways to make your code safer!
Code review: study after study shows that code review will save your butt. You only need one reviewer to find a ton of issues and potential errors. This works for any project in any language!
Self review: before you submit code for code review, take a ten minute break then print out the code and review it yourself. This can find up to half the errors that others would find, and it's super efficient to boot!
