But voters have to decide *now* which way to cast their Remain vote. How they can do that rationally when Labour won't disclose its full stance, I have no idea.
And the problem is this explicit ambiguity will allow people to claim post-GE that a vote for Labour was a vote to Leave, just like it was interpreted that way after the 2017 GE.
But Labour's stance in the hypothetical 2nd referendum is hugely important. If they back Leave, then it will be the LibDems alone (of the larger parties) campaigning for Remain. All the other parties can gang up and portray the 2nd ref as a LibDem project. Bingo, Remain loses.
Yes, the mood in the UK has now swung to Remain. But a lot of those voters will be "weak Remain". If they see Labour, the Tories and the Brexit Party all campaigning for Leave, that will definitely sway some of them back again.
Of course, we will know what's what when Labour publish their manifesto. Every word on Brexit will need to be forensically examined and weighed for Remainness and Leaveness before we can form a full tactical voting picture.
