Hence, why I think the Elder is a stabilizing force. The major problem is training the Elder to understand how to adjust to change. Our current culture says that an older person can not learn nor progress. Which I think is hogwash, because even an old dog can learn new tricks.
There are endless possibilities and options to dealing with life. However, the modern culture is highly my way or the highway. Especially when Total Profit is the main drive. But, if one is willing to see all the angles and not the balance sheet only, the Elder comes into play.
A youth will throw his hands up in the air if something seems too difficult at first, or will drive almost obsessively to their destruction on pointless. An Elder will discern the differences of concepts or ideas. And make advice and direction to specific needs and resource use
A youth will roughly operate their concept out trying to make maximum profit. While an Elder will patiently develope the item understanding the profit is not always today, but sometimes not his life, but profits future generations. This is the gifts and talents an elder offers
A youth may do a surface analysis of an object, while the Elder will consider the "character" of an object and its nuances. A youth may struggle to break a rock, while the Elder simply taps it at its weakness falling apart with minimal effort. This is the wisdom of time
If one subtracts technology, The Elder and Youth are both the same. Teacher and Student. But, one must take this maximum to heart. The Teacher is the Best Student, the Student is the Best Teacher. Only a fool doesn't listen to all party involved. Even a child can reveal wisdom
But, when one takes the Elder out of the public square. And dishonors him into obscurity. We break the circle of stability that human society requires to sustain itself. The passions of the Youth and relative inexperience of the young adult make society vulnerable unstable
However, if one completely and totally defers to an Elder without sense of responsibility or subservience, a society grinds itself into a self-imposed death of inability. Especially more noted when an Elder dies without one to replace his mantle of responsibility. Collapse Total
It is a balance between both groups that allows for stability in our society. Without the Elder, the Youth has no focus or stabilizing core without the Youth the Elder has no energy nor new ideas to learn from even more. What is new becomes old, what is old becomes new. This Life
Something I have noticed in passing through at this stage of life. Something of a noted problem as the times are changing and many are concerned. The consequences of a change with good intention causes many griefs down the road. But one must see the Elder in his place of honor.
